Y-League Preview: City v Adelaide

Following a bye last week, Melbourne City’s Y-League team will return to action this Sunday afternoon when it hosts Adelaide United at C.B Smith Reserve.

Having played five games this season, City hasn’t been able to get off to the start it had hoped, having drawn 3 games and still yet to pick up a win.

Most recently, City were able to draw away from home against a strong Brisbane team after suffering two consecutive losses in the games prior.

Jai Ingham got the hosts off to a dream start, scoring twice in the first 25 minutes to put City in big trouble early.

Six minutes later, Moudi Najjar grabbed one back, heading home City’s first from point-blank range.

It was Najjar again finding the back of the net in the 73rd minute to draw City level.

This was the strikers fourth goal of the season as he continues to build on his form and press for senior team selection.

It’s been a different story for Adelaide United to start the season with the Reds having won three of their opening five games.

United most recently took on Perth and were able to pick up a 4-2 win after having trailed early in the second half.

These teams have already matched up once this season, with Adelaide winning 3-2 at home.

Adam Leombruno opened the scoring for the home side in the first half before Idrus Abdulahi draw City level inside two minutes of the second half.

Binyam Kebde restored Adelaide’s lead 10 minutes later but it was short lived with Jordi Valadon levelling it up for City.

It wasn’t until almost the last kick of the game, but Adelaide were able to gain all three points with Daniele Bressan putting home the winner.

This will be City’s last home game of the year although it will be taking on Melbourne Victory next week in Epping before finishing its season off in Perth a week later.
