After joining Melbourne City FC from Dutch side PEC Zwolle in the Eredivisie at the beginning of last season, the 26-year-old defender has quickly established himself as one of the league’s most prolific centre-backs.
The former youth product of Feyenoord and Netherlands U19 representative was crowned Melbourne City FC’s Player of the Year award following his breakout debut season in the Hyundai A-League.
The Dutchman finished the 2017-18 campaign with the most interceptions (57) and as the most accurate passer (90.5% pass accuracy). Schenkeveld led his teammates in both duels and aerial duels won, and was a contributing factor to City securing nine clean sheets across the course of the season – the most in one season in the Club’s history.
