Biography
Born in Arcadia, California, in the United States, Lauren Barnes first joined Melbourne City FC at the beginning of the 2016/17 Westfield W-League season.
On-loan from NWSL side Seattle Reign FC, Barnes has played a vital role in the heart of City's defence since joining the Club. A brilliant reader of the play in front of her, Barnes is excellent in one-on-one defensive duels and is a prolific passer of the football.
The 30-year-old’s senior career began with Philadelphia Independence in 2011, before she joined the Reign in 2013. In 2014, Barnes first got a taste for W-League football when she joined Melbourne Victory on-loan.
Barnes’ consistency in defence saw her take out City’s Player of the Year award following the Club’s record-breaking 2017/18 W-League season. In season 2018/19, the experienced defender continued to flourish down under, finishing the season with Club's Coaches Award.
With over 50 league appearances to her name, Barnes plays an important leadership role for the team, utilising her experience to help her younger teammates.
