Born in Arcadia, California, in the United States, Lauren Barnes first joined Melbourne City FC at the beginning of the 2016/17 Westfield W-League season.
On-loan from NWSL side Seattle Reign FC, Barnes has played a vital role in the heart of City's defence since joining the Club. A brilliant reader of the play in front of her, Barnes is excellent in one-on-one defensive duels and is a prolific passer of the football.
The 29-year-old’s senior career began with Philadelphia Independence in 2011, before she joined the Reign in 2013. In 2014, Barnes first got a taste for W-League football when she joined Melbourne Victory on-loan.
Barnes’ consistency in defence saw her take out City’s Player of the Year award following the Club’s record-breaking 2017/18 W-League season. She finished the season as one of the league’s most influential players, leading the competition for total passes.
